Houses of Hinus are burning at Namopara village in Barisal Sadar this morning.
A college student was killed and another injured in a clash over playing badminton at a Hindu locality in Barisal Sadar upazila last night.
Angered at the death rumour of the injured, neighbouring Muslim villagers torched 16 houses of Hindus in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Parvez, a student of Barisal Government BM College. He died at BarisalSher-e-BanglaMedicalCollegeHospital around 9:00pm Thursday, said Md Shamsuddin, commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police.
Meanwhile, the arson incident took place at Namopara village around 9:55am as the death rumour of injured Jahirul spread in his Char Aicha village, the police official said.
Around 8:00pm yesterday, the clash took place among youths over playing badminton that left the duo injured severely, reports our correspondent in Barisal.
Jahirul was also admitted to the hospital and later shifted to DhakaMedicalCollegeHospital as his condition deteriorated.
In the morning, hundreds of villagers rushed the Hindu locality, where the clash took place, and torched 16 houses of the village, the police official said.
No casualty was reported in the incident of fire.
Police detained four persons for interrogation in connection with the killing.
