Mushfiq unsold in IPL auction

National stalwart Mushfiqur Rahim failed to draw any bid in the Indian Premier League players auction in Jaipur, India on Tuesday and remained unsold.

Mushfiq, who had amassed 395-run off 14 T20 matches for Bangladesh in the ongoing year, was put under the hammer with a base price of rupees 50 lakhs in the wicketkeeper category.

Mahmudullah’s name wasn’t even called up in the auction.

Carlos Brathwaite, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran and Ohane Thomas got instant reward for West Indies’ dominant performance against Bangladesh in the Sylhet T20 as all four of them were sold for a hefty amount in the auction.

West Indies’ Twenty20 skipper Brathwaite received the highest bid of the four, Rs five crores from Kolkata Knight Riders from the base price of Rs 75 lakhs.

Hetmyer and Pooran bagged Rs 4.2 crores each in the auction and will play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab respectively in the next year’s IPL.

Thomas was later picked up by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.1 crores.

Indian pacer Jaidev Unadkat and uncapped Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy drew the highest bid in the auction table with both the players being sold for Rs 8.4 crores to Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab respectively.

Many known names like Brendan McCullam , Dale Steyn, Hashim Amla failed to get a team in the auction.

Nine Bangladeshi players had registered for the IPL but among them only Mushfiq and Mahmudullah were shortlisted for the auction.

With them remaining unpicked, Sakib al Hasan, who has been retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad, will now be the only Bangladeshi to play IPL in 2019.
