Mufti Izhar’s son to be grilled at TIF cell in capital

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has decided to send Hefajat-e-Islam nayeb-e-ameer Mufti Izharul Islam’s son Harun Bin Izhar, arrested in connection with blast at a madrasah in the port city, to Taskforce for Interrogation (TFI) cell in Dhaka.

“During interrogation in a joint cell at CMP, information was gleaned from Mufti Harun (Bin Izhar). To obtain more information, a decision has been taken to send him to joint cell in Dhaka,” said Banoj Kumar Majumder, additional commissioner (Crime and Drive) of CMP.

Meanwhile, Mufti Harun was shown arrested in three more cases filed in connection with the May 5 violence unleashed by Hefajat-e-Islam men in the capital.

Police said he will be produced before a Dhaka court in connection with the new cases.

Earlier on October 8, 12 persons, including Mufti Izharul Islam and Harun Izhar, were made accused in the two cases for their suspected links with the ‘mysterious’ explosion in a room on the 1st floor of the four-storey hostel of Jamiatul Ulum Islami Madrasa at Lalkhan Bazar in the city the previous day.

Three students were killed in the blast.

Police arrested Harun in the city on October 9 and produced him before a Chittagong court which placed him on a 10-day remand in two cases concerning the explosion.
