Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said the government will allocate more fund for the Padma Bridge project in the next budget though the allocation made in the current fiscal has not been fully utilised.

“A proposal is likely to be placed to allocate Tk 8,000 crore for Padma Bridge in the next budget,” he said.

The minister said this while visiting the river training work of Padma Bridge construction at Louhajang upazila.

Mentioning that the main work on the bridge will begin in June next, the minister said the work order for river training work will be issued in August. Three contracting firms have been asked to submit their proposals, he added.

Mawa Ferry Ghat will be relocated to Shimulia temporarily before the start of the main work on the project, Obaidul Quader said adding that the Mawa river port will permanently be moved to Kandi Para.

“The army will begin the construction work on Shimulia Ghat within three to four days,” he added.
