Mominul leads Bangla fightback

Mominul Haque’s maiden Test ton helped Bangladesh reach 380 in reply to New Zealand’s first innings total of 469 in their first of the two-Test series at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Friday.

Mominul added 181 off 274 deliveries before his flicking attempt in a Corey Anderson delivery let the ball hit his pad in front of the middle and leg stumps.

Sohag Gazi was unbeaten on 28, accompanied by Abdur Razzak (1) as the third day’s play came to an end.

Nasir Hossain was the last to go for the day. New Zealand debutant Ish Sodhi secured his maiden Test scalp as Nasir tried to pull a short delivery but was caught at mid-on by Brendon McCullum.

Doug Bracewell sent back Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim for 67. Mushfiq poked a good length delivery to Ross Taylor at first slip.

Marshall Ayub (25) was the only host casualty in the morning session. He got a thick toe edge through to the keeper BJ Watling in a Corey Anderson delivery.

Williamson sent back Shakib Al Hasan at the start of the post-lunch session. Shakib’s attempted cut of a short and outside-off delivery with an unexpected bounce, found an edgy slice, and Watling took a captivating catch.
