Abdul Quader Mollah will appeal with the Supreme Court seeking stay on the execution of its verdict awarding him death penalty, the condemned Jamaat leader’s counsels said Wednesday.

“We will file the petition after getting the certified copy of the short order,” defence counsel Tajul Islam told The Daily Star on Tuesday.

While talking to the daily, Islam and another defence counsel Shishir Monir said they are ready to submit the petition praying to the SC to stay the execution process until a review petition against the verdict is settled.

The comments came a day after the Supreme Court sentenced the assistant secretary general to death overhauling the judgement of International Crimes Tribunal-2 that had given him life term for war crimes committed in 1971.

The counsels said they will file a review petition challenging the apex court verdict after getting its full text.

Tajul and Shishir informed that they have already applied to the SC authorities for the certified copy of the full text verdict Tuesday afternoon as Mollah can file the review petition only after getting the copy.

The SC sources said the signed copy of the short verdict was not released yet.
