A namaz-e-janaza was held in front of a local mosque around 9:20am.

The body of Mojaheed, chief of notorious Al-Badr force in 1971, reached his ancestral home in Faridpur’s Khabashpur village around 6:35am, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Executive magistrates Rubayet Hayat Shiplu and Mandeep Ghorai received the body on behalf of local authorities. He was buried beside the main entrance of Khabaspur Ideal Madrasa.

His namaz-e-janaza held at Khabaspur Ideal Madrasa ground around 6:55am. Abdur Rashid, the district’s additional deputy commissioner, said Mojaheed was buried at 7:10am.

The two top war criminals, both former ministers, were hanged together inside Dhaka Central Jail at 12:55am early today after President Abdul Hamid rejected their mercy pleas.

Families of both convicts were allowed a final visit last night. Both families denied news of any mercy petitions being filed from on-behalf of the convicts.

Additional security measures were deployed in the country surrounding the execution as paramilitary forces were deployed in Dhaka and Chittagong to thwart any untoward incident.
