Modi greets people of Bangladesh

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people of Bangladesh on the eve of the 45th Independence Day.

In his latest tweet, the Indian PM wrote: “Independence Day greetings to the people of Bangladesh, a Nation that has always been an enduring and important friend for India.”

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee had also earlier extended his greetings on the eve of the People’s Republic’s National Day.

Earlier, the Indian premier made phone call to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina and conveyed best wishes to the Tigers for the ICC World Cup.

Later, he tweeted: “Cricket connects people in our region & promotes goodwill,” Modi said in a tweet. “Hope players from SAARC [South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation] region play with passion & bring laurels to the region.”

Modi has been using social media as one of the main means or channels of general communication since he assumed the office.

He has permitted Twitter unprecedented access to his administration in a drive to put social media at the heart of government.

He has put both the microblogging site and Facebook at the centre of his government’s media and research strategies since taking office a month ago and has asked ministers and lawmakers to follow suit.

The 63-year-old’s focus on social media presents opportunities for the companies, which see India as one of their top growth markets and are sending senior executives to forge relationships with the government.

With 5 million followers, Modi is the fourth most followed world leader on Twitter. He has 18.8 million Facebook likes.
