RUET’s Chhatra League leader Saifuzzaman Sohag, whose family said he was picked up from his Rajshahi home has been found in Chittagong.

The family, who earlier claimed he had been picked up by RAB personnel, said on Wednesday that Sohag contacted them from his phone around 4am from Chittagong.

His father Akkas Uz Zaman said that the ‘abductors’ abandoned him in Mirsarai in the early hours of Wednesday.

“Some locals arranged his journey to Dhaka. Our relatives there received him at Dhaka’s Kamalapur. They started for Rajshahi with Sohag after 1pm,” he told bdnews24.com

According to Zaman, Sohag’s physical condition is ‘not good’.

Police said they were not aware of Sohag’s resurfacing.

“We have no knowledge of this,” Mirsarai police OC Imtiaz Bhuiyan told bdnews24.com.

Sohag, a mechanical engineering student at the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, is said to have been taken away from his home in the city’s Rajparha area early on Dec 10.

He is the information and research secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League’s RUET unit.

The family says he was picked up by people claiming to be from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

But RAB denied having nabbed Sohag or having planned to do that. The local police also said they had no knowledge of Sohag being detained.
