Mirza Abbas meets disgruntled JCD leaders, says he will brief Khaleda

He spoke with the leaders who were left out of the new committee of the party’s student affiliate, which was approved by BNP chief Khaleda Zia on Oct 14.

The meeting took place at his home in the capital’s Shahjahanpur on Tuesday amid violent protests and fighting.

“They will not lose their positions, neither are they rebels. Their opinions merely differ from those on the new committee.”

“They came to express their views which I listened to. I will let the leader (Khaleda) know of it,” Abbas told the reporters after a meeting of an hour and a half.

After the disgruntled leaders and their supporters demonstrated at BNP’s Naya Paltan office on Sunday, BNP spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir spoke to their representatives.

After talking to them Fakhrul also told the reporters he had listened to them and will let Khaleda know.

They called off the demonstration when Fakhrul assured he would inform them of the development on Monday.

He and Mirza Abbas, along with some BNP leaders, held talks on Monday.

Standing Committee member and Dhaka metropolitan unit convenor Abbas have said much the same thing on the following day after meeting the Chhatra Dal leaders.

“Those who came today think this crisis needs solution. I believe, it’s not something that cannot be solved,” he said.

When asked when the issue will be resolved he said, “Can’t say that, but I believe it will be resolved.”

Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal President Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal was present in the meet.

After the meeting, vice-president of the last committee Abu Sayeed told the reporters, “We have spoken about our demands with him… We will do whatever necessary to defend Chhatra Dal. Things will happen the way the leader (Khaleda) wants.”

Organising Secretary Ishaq Sarkar and Joint General Secretary Gazi Rezwanul Haq Riaz of the new committee were also present.

They discontented leaders allege BNP’s Student Affairs Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and Deputy Student Affairs Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku were responsible for the Oct 14 committee.

Their effigies were burnt on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the new committee, with Rajib Ahsan as president and Akramul Hasan as general secretary, have initiated work.
