Ministries asked to submit reports on Bangla use by 15 days

The Public Administration Ministry has asked all the ministries concerned to submit their reports over implementation of the High Court order on using Bangla by the next 15 days.

Senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury said this while talking to reporters at a press briefing at the ministry on Wednesday.

Earlier, on February 17, the High Court issued an order to use Bangla in all signboards, nameplates and number plates of vehicles as well as electronic media advertisements.

On April 29, the High Court expressed its disappointment at the government stance over implementation of its orders on the use of Bangla in all advertisements of electronic media and on vehicle registration plates, signboards and billboards across the country.

“We have held a meeting with officials concerned of the ministries about the implementation of the High Court order,” said Kamal Abdul Naser.

The ministry asked the Local Government Ministry to ensure the use of Bangla in billboards and signboards in all the offices under city corporations while the transport owners to ensure the use of Bangla on the number plates of vehicles, he said.

Besides, the Information Ministry has been asked to take steps for implementation of the order on use of Bangla advertisement in electronic and print media, he added.

Replying to a question whether the High Court order will be implemented by 15 days, the secretary said, “If we fail to implement the HC order then we’ll  sit again and take necessary steps in this regard.”
