Militant infiltration into Rohingya camps will be thwarted: IGP

Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque has stated that the law enforcers will make sure that no Rohingya refugees get involved in militancy.

Speaking at a briefing in police headquarters on Monday, Shahidul Hoque said, “Our agents are alert in the field so that the militants can’t infiltrate and provoke militancy among the Rohingyas.”

Stating that the Rohingyas are being made of the militancy threat, he said, “Police are alert to thwart any such effort in disguise of aid distribution.”

“The relief distributors have to go through the local administration office and accompany an officer during distribution. Also, aid materials are being frisked,” he added.

Claiming that spreading militancy among the Rohingya refugees is next to impossible, the police chief said, “Bangladesh won’t allow its soil to be used as a breeding ground for militants.”

Shahidul Hoque also stressed on the need of restricting the movement of Rohingya refugees for “their own good”.

“If they fan out, they will become illegal immigrants and we will be forced to arrest them. They need to be registered so that they get the proper assistance,” said the police chief.
