Transparency International Bangladesh executive director Iftekharuzzaman on Tuesday said both the disaster management and relief minister and the food minister should resign from their posts voluntarily to set an example, United News of Bangladesh reports.
‘If they resign voluntarily, they’ll be able to set an example,’ he told a press conference at the TIB office in the capital.
About the alleged corruption by disaster management and relief minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Iftekhar said the graft allegation raised against him was under trial, but it would be fair if he resigns setting an example.
Graft allegation has also emerged recently against food minister Qamrul Islam in wheat import and now it was proved that the wheat quality was not good, he said.
‘The food minister should also resign voluntarily … And if they can prove that they are clean in court or through investigation, their popularity will increase and people will accept them offering flowers.’
The TIB executive director stressed the need for conducting a probe into the much-talked-about wheat scam following proper procedures of investigation.
He said if someone is found guilty with the wheat scam, he or she must be brought to justice.
