Malaysian officers charged with Bangladeshi murder

A Malaysian court today charged two local immigration officers with murdering a Bangladeshi detainee last month.
Md Aminnudin Yasin and Zuhairul Effendy Zualkafli, immigration officers at Kangar in a provincial capital Perlis, allegedly killed Abu Bakar Siddiqe, 45, in custody, reports Malaysian state news agency Bernama.
Surprisingly, the officials at Bangladesh high commission in Kuala Lumpur were still unaware of the murder.
“Usually, we receive official letter from the Malaysian authorities if any Bangladeshi dies here. But I couldn’t confirm you now about the report of Abu Bakar Siddiqe. I need time to verify it,” Sayedul Islam, counsellor (labour wing), told The Daily Star over phone.
According to Bernama, Siddique was murdered in the pantry at level 2 of the immigration premises at Kompleks KDN between 10:00pm and 11:00pm on October 29 after he was picked up by the two immigration officials.
Malaysian Magistrate Nik Mohd Tarmizi Nik Mohd Shukri set December 12 for re-mention.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34, carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Badius Zaman Ahmad appeared for the prosecutions while the duo were represented by counsel Rahamathullah Baharudeen during hearing.
