Limon indicted in arms case

Limon Hossain, a college student who was shot and maimed by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in 2011, has been indicted by a Jhalakathi court in an arms case filed by the elite force.

Judge Kiran Shankar Haldar of Jhalakathi’s Special Tribunal-2 framed charges against Limon on Monday. The court also rejected his acquittal appeal.

The court fixed Aug 26 to start recording the deposition.

RAB arrested Limon and shot him in the left leg after a so-called gunfight near his home at Saturia in the Rajapur Upazila of Jhalakathi on Mar 23, 2011, resulting in the amputation of the limb.

On the same day, RAB filed two cases with the Rajapur Police Station implicating Limon in an arms case and also accusing him of obstructing law enforcers from carrying out their duties.

Limon’s mother Henoara Begum filed a case on Apr 10, 2011, accusing six RAB personnel of attempting to murder, severely injure and maiming her son.
