Let’s develop economy on our own: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought cooperation of the administration cadres to implement her government’s economic programmes.

“We must take charge of our own development. I want your cooperation for this,” she said at an Iftar of Bangladesh Administrative Service Association at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka on Thursday.

She also asked everyone to be prepared to make sacrifices when needed.

“No more dependence on others. We need to be self-reliant. We will develop the economy on our own,” said the Prime Minister.

She emphasised creating ‘good’ working condition for the administration cadre officials and efficiently carrying out the responsibilities.

But Hasina maintained that only elected governments oversee development and pointed out that “terrorism, corruption and loan default cases increased during the military and military-backed governments”.

She claimed that public servants had worked in fear during the 2001-06 BNP-led government and 2007-08 caretaker administration.

Association President and Local Government Secretary Abu Alam Md Shahid Khan presided over the programme, also addressed by Public Administration Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister, H T Imam, and Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.
