Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday alleged that law enforcers killed Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) central committee’s assistant general secretary Nurul Alam Nuru in Chittagong’s Ruajan after picking him up from his residence on Wednesday night.

Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that Raujan Police Station SI Sheikh Javed along with some other plainclothes police picked up Nuru from his Chandanpura residence in the port city at about 11:30pm on Wednesday.

Later, he said, they killed him by firing 10 shots in his head in Kuapara Thelarghat area along the bank of the Karnaphuli River.

Seeing Nuru’s body on the river bank, Rizvi said, locals informed his relatives and local BNP leaders.

However, SI Javed denied the allegation, saying he has no idea about detaining Nuru from Chittagong city and he was there with his team in an anti-militancy drive at a madrasa in Raujan on Wednesday night.

Rizvi claimed that Nuru’s family members and local people saw Javed led the drive during picking up Nuru.

Addressing at the briefing, JCD president Rajib Ahsan announced a countrywide demonstration programme for Sunday to protest the killing.

Rajib said the programme will be observed in all cities, district towns and educational institutions across the country.
