Khaleda ZiaFour days after an arrest warrant was issued against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, the court has now issued a warrant for police to search her office in Gulshan. The police now, at any time, can carry out a search of the office. When asked when the search could be carried out, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Huq last night told Prothom Alo, it would be searched when required.BNP leaders have said, the government has given the police a warrant through the court to search Khaleda Zia’s office in order to put her under further pressure. Basically, the government wants to use the search to remove the BNP chairperson’s staff and party leaders from the office, so that Khaleda Zia remains absolutely alone and cut off from the outside. They may also be wanting to remove any equipment used for communication. The BNP leaders have said that warrants for arrest and search will make no difference to Khaleda Zia’ stand. Despite the warrant, there is little likelihood of her going to office. There will be no change in the ongoing movement and programmes either. Even so, the search warrant has generated considerable concern within the Gulshan office. Till last night, the warrant hadn’t reached the police station.
