Khaleda with anti-liberation elements: Hasina

She also slammed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for celebrating her birthday on Aug 15, the National Mourning Day.

“You make the defeated force of 1971 understand that you don’t believe in country’s liberation by celebrating birthdays on Aug 15,” Hasina said at a programme on Friday, marking the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“She (Khaleda) is with them, she is with those who are against our liberation,” Hasina alleged.

Khaleda celebrated her 69th birthday by cutting cakes in her office on Thursday.

The three-time Prime Minister has been roundly criticised for celebrating on a day when Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated with most of his family members in 1975.

She has been observing day since 1991 when she became the Prime Minister for the first time.

Hasina alleged the defeated force killed Bangabandhu on that day after failing to accept the Bengalees’ independence achieved under his guidance.

Taking a dig at Khaleda, Hasina said, “She celebrates birthday cutting cakes even at this age. There is no mention of her date of birth anywhere.”

At one point, Hasina became emotional recalling what had happened to her father Bangabandhu and other family members in the past.

Hasina alleged the opposition was issuing ultimatums and announcing programmes “only to save war criminals.”

“(BNP founder) Ziaur Rahman had stopped the trial of Bangabandhu killing. (His wife) Khaleda wants to stop war crimes trial,” she said.

Hasina then rattled off a list of development efforts and claimed her government was running the country quite skilfully.
