Khaleda undermining Ramadan sanctity: Quamrul

In a scathing attack on the BNP chairperson, Food Minister Quamrul Islam on Tuesday said Khaleda Zia is undermining the sanctity of Ramadan by resorting to falsehoods every day.

“This is the holy month of fasting …people seek forgiveness to Allah during Iftar. But she (Khaleda) is undermining the sanctity of Ramadan by delivering political remarks during Iftar every day,” he said.

Quamrul, also the joint general secretary of Awami League Dhaka city unit, said this while addressing a discussion organised by Janatar Pratiyasha at the Jatiya Press Club.

Mentioning that Khaleda Zia will meet her eldest son Tarique Rahman, the minister said, “They’ll get together to work out a new plan of new conspiracy. But we wouldn’t let her plan be successful. We would resist all of their evil-designs as people are with us.”

About BNP’s threat to wage a movement after Eid, Quamrul Islam said they are trying to create anarchy in the country afresh in the name of movement.

“I’m clearly saying if they carry out anarchy in the name of movement, they have to face dire consequences,” he added.

Awami League Publicity and Publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, among others, spoke at the programme held with Janatar Pratiyasha president MA Karim in the chair.
