BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is going to sit with the leaders of Dhaka city BNP on Monday night in an apparent move to put the party’s crucial unit in order through a major overhaul before launching a fresh movement.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office at 8pm, Dhaka city unit BNP member secretary Abdus Salam told UNB.

Asked about the agenda of the meeting, Salam said the BNP chief will exchange views with them about the current political situation, party’s future strategy and line of action and other issues relating to the organisational activities for making the unit vibrant and ready for the upcoming movement.

However, a source close to Khaleda, said dissolving Dhaka city unit committee led by Sadeque Hossain Khoka and Abdus Salam is likely to come up for discussion at the meeting.

Khaleda may form a convening committee led by a party standing committee member to overhaul the city unit by inducting dedicated, active and potential leaders.

According to the source, the BNP chief is supposed to seek explanation from the BNP’s Dhaka city unit leaders about their respective role in the anti-government movement before the January 5 election.

She will also seek their opinions as to how the party can wage a vigorous movement in the coming days to force the government to hold a fresh election.

After the meeting, the BNP chief may form the convening committee asking it to form a full-fledged Dhaka city, thana and ward committees within a month, the source added.

The sources close to Khaleda said the Dhaka city unit might comprise of 21 members with BNP standing committee member Hannan Shah as its convener. “If Hannan Shah refuses, Rafiqul Islam Mia might be made its convener.”

Khaleda formed the existing Dhaka city unit of BNP on May, 2011 making Khoka as its convener and Salalm member secretary.
