Khaleda pays tributes to war heroes

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday morning paid homage to the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the country during the War of Liberation in 1971.

 

Khaleda, flanked by her party senior leaders, had been at Savar National Mausoleum around 9:00 am and placed wreaths there, marking the Independence Day.

 

BNP standing committee members Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, Nazrul Islam Khan, Dr Moyeen Khan, BNP vice chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Selima Rahman, Dr Osman Farroque, Barrister Shahjahan Omar, joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Salahuddin Ahmed and Jubo Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, among others, accompanied the BNP chief.

 

Later, Khaleda paid tribute to party founder and late President Ziaur Rahman at his Sher-e Bangla Nagar grave along with senior party leaders around 2:50pm.

 

Khaleda also joined a special prayer arranged by Jatiyatabadi Ulema Dal on the grave premises.

 

Several hundred BNP leaders and activists thronged on the grave premises and also paid their tributes to their late leader placing wreaths.

 

As part of its two-day programme to mark the Independence Day, the party arranged a discussion at the Institution of Engineers on Tuesday where the BNP was present as the chief guest.
