Khaleda pays respects to Zillur

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia placed wreath on the coffin of Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban on Thursday to pay her last respects to the late President.

Accompanied by top party leaders, Khaleda Zia reached Bangabhaban at around 2:00pm. She placed wreath at Rahman’s coffin placed in Darbar Hall there.

Later, she spoke to Rahman’s son Nazmul Hassan Papon and signed in the mourning register.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was also present there, but the political rivals were not seen speaking to each other.

Among BNP leaders, BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Moudud Ahmed, Sadeque Hossain Khoka and MK Anwar accompanied Khaleda Zia.

Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad also visited Bangabhaban to pay his last respects to Zillur Rahman.

The BNP is observing three days of mourning starting Thursday upon the death of the President.

The party’s flags are hoisted half-mast at the BNP offices across the country.

BNP Assistant Office Secretary Abdul Latif Johnny said, “The decision has been taken to hoist the national and party flags half-mast at the party offices to show respect to late President Zillur Rahman.”

The party has also postponed all its programmes until Saturday.

The BNP Chairperson also rescheduled her Bogra and Joypurhat visits for Mar 23 and 24 as a mark of respect to the late President.
