BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia started her journey to Bogra on Statuary afternoon as she embarked on a three-day tour of the country’s northern region to address two public rallies in Rangpur and Rajshahi on Sunday and Monday respectively.

The BNP chairperson started her journey from her Gulshan residence at 3.40 pm.

She is scheduled to stay overnight at Bogra Circuit House on Saturday and start for Rangpur on Sunday around 11am.

As part of its movement strategy, the BNP-led 18-party alliance is going to arrange the two rallies in two divisional cities to woo public support in favour of the opposition’s demand for arranging the next polls under a non-party administration.

The BNP chief will address a public rally at Rangpur Zila High School ground on Sunday afternoon.

Later, she will return to Bogra again and stay overnight at the Circuit House there.

Khaleda will start for Rajshahi on Monday morning and address another public rally at Rajshahi Madrasah ground in the afternoon and then return to Dhaka at night.

Party sources said Khaleda in her addresses will depict the country’s overall sordid state highlighting the government’s failures to run the state, misdeeds, corruption and repressive acts, justify the demand for restoration of the caretaker government and roll out her party’s plan to carry out development of the country and Rangpur and Rajshahi if it returns to power.

Meanwhile, local BNP has taken all-out preparations to welcome Khaleda in the northern region and make her rallies a success.

Several hundred of arches have been erected from Tangail to Bogra to welcome the party chief.

Central leaders of BNP and its associate bodies held several preparatory meetings in Rangpur and Rajshahi to successfully hold the rallies with the spontaneous participation of people.

There has already been huge enthusiasm among the people of Bgora, Rangpur and Rajshahi and its adjoining districts over the rallies.

After Rangpur and Rajshahi, the former premier will address rallies in Khulna on September 22, Barisal on September 29 and Sylhet on October 5.

She will also address rallies in Dhaka and Chittagong after Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims.

Earlier, Khaleda, also the leader of the opposition in parliament, addressed a mammoth rally at Balurmath in Narsingdi Sadar upazila, the first out of the eight scheduled rallies.

The 18-party chalked out a plan to hold rallies in eight regions of the country to increase people’s involvement in their ongoing anti-government campaign and force the government to restore now-abolished caretaker government system to oversee the polls.

On August 19, a day after the Prime Minister’s announcement that her government would not budge even an inch from the constitutional provision in holding the next general election, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the schedules of the rallies at a press conference.
