Khaleda conveys sympathy to Ilias family

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday expressed profound sympathy to the family members of party’s missing organising secretary M Ilias Ali.

A delegation of BNP, led by party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, met Ilias’ wife, Tahsina Rushdir Luna, at her Banani residence and conveyed the party chairperson’s sympathy as the BNP leader could not be rescued or traced even after two years of his reported forced disappearance.

On April 17, 2012, former BNP MP Ilias was picked up allegedly by some plainclothes men along with his car driver Ansar Ali from the capital’s Banani area, but it is still not clear whether he is dead or alive. There has been no visible progress in the investigation by the law enforcers to unearth the mystery over the BNP leader’s disappearance.

BNP has been claiming since his disappearance that the law enforcers at the behest of the government picked up Ilias, an allegation vehemently rejected by the government.

The BNP delegation went to Ilias’ residence, ‘Sylhet House’, around 2pm and stayed there over 40 minutes.

They talked to Luna, her sons and only daughter and enquired about their present condition.

Luna expressed her anger as the law enforcers could not make any progress though two years have already elapsed since her husband was apprehended and made disappeared.

“My husband was made disappeared for political reasons. The law enforcers are yet to trace my husband although the Prime Minister assured me of doing so. Even the members of law enforcers did not meet me for a single time in the last one and a half years,” she said with tears streaming down her cheeks.

Luna, however, said she is still hopeful of finding her husband back.

“I’m still counting on the Almighty Allah to get him back. I’m waiting for his safe return,” a sobbing and dejected Luna told the BNP leaders and journalists.

BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, vice chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, joint secretaries general Amanullah Aman, Salahuddin Ahmed, central leaders Khairul Kabir Khokan and Najimuddin Alam were, among others, present.
