Karachi Kings recruit Shakib Al Hasan in PSL drafts

Tamim Iqbal was drafted into Peshawar Zalmi while Lahore Qalandars went for young pacer Mustafizur Rahman.

Shakib was grouped in the topmost category, Platinum, in the PSL drafts. Karachi called for the Bangladeshi star in the second round of the Platinum drafts of the five-franchise competition.

The Karachi franchise opted for Icon player Shoaib Malik in the first round and Sohail Tanvir in the third.

South Africa’s Mickey Arthur, who had been the coach for Dhaka Dynamites in the last Bangladesh Premier League, will coach the Karachi team.

A fee of $140,000 has been determined for each Platinum player barring the five Icons, each of whom will be paid $200,000.

Islamabad United drafted Icon Shane Watson, Misbah-ul-Haq and Andre Russell from the top category, while Peshawar Zalmi included Icon Shahid Afridi, Wahab Riaz and Darren Sammy in their squad.

Icon Kevin Pietersen, Sarfraz Ahmed will be playing for Quetta Gladiators, while Icon Chris Gayle, Umar Akmal and Dwayne Bravo in Lahore Qalandars.

A total of 310 cricketers, including 138 Pakistani players, were divided in five categories in the drafts but 100 of them will be enlisted in teams. Each team will comprise 20 players.

Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar, Mustafizur Rahman and Shahriar Nafees were grouped in the Gold category while Mahmudullah, Anamul Haque, Mominul Haque and Imrul Kayes were in Silver.

The fees for players in the Gold and Silver category were fixed at $50,000 and $25,000 respectively.

After years of planning, the Pakistan Cricket Board is finally set to launch their domestic Twenty20 competition in February next year in the United Arab Emirates.

It has been scheduled to run from Feb 4 to 25.
