kamalAn electoral inquiry committee yesterday fined ruling Awami League’s MP nominee Kamal Ahmed Majumder Tk 25,000 for violating the electoral code of conduct.
“We’ve fined Kamal Majumder for putting up posters on billboards. It’s a violation of the electoral code of conduct,” said Tasnia Jaigirdar, an executive magistrate and head of the electoral inquiry committee in the capital’s Mirpur.
A contender (Dhaka-15) for the January 5 parliamentary polls, Kamal will have to serve 15 days’ imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission will ask another electoral inquiry committee in Lalbagh area to investigate an alleged violation of the code of conduct by former AL lawmaker Haji Muhammad Selim, an independent candidate in Dhaka-7 constituency.
AL nominee Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin has recently complained with the EC that Selim has been conducting electoral campaigns using the photo of AL President Sheikh Hasina, though he is an independent candidate.
The EC has deployed 140 electoral inquiry committees across the country to monitor electioneering and the overall polls situation.
