Pro-ruling party activists–detained over the killing of two people, including an eight-year-old boy, in Monday’s gunfight–being taken to court in Chittagong on Tuesday.

Detectives arrested a Jubo League leader, who guided his group in the Monday’s gunfight with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Chittagong, at Gulshan in the capital early Wednesday.

Two people including an eight-year old boy died in the gunfight that ensued over dropping a railway tender in the CRB area of Chittagong Monday noon.

Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar, a central committee member of the youth front of ruling Awami League, led his men while Saiful Islam Limon, guided the activists of BCL, the student front of the Awami League, in the gunfight.

Babar is one of the 127 Jubo League and BCL men sued in connection with the killings.

Detective Branch (DB) of police from Dhaka and Chittagong jointly conducted a raid at an apartment of the capital’s posh area and made the arrest, reported our Chittagong correspondent quoting Md Nezam Uddin, an inspector (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong.

Four associates of Babar were also arrested from the spot.

A Chittagong court on Tuesday placed 44 arrestees out of 52 on a one-day remand in connection with the case that filed with Kotwali Police Station of the port city for the killings and engaging in a gunfight during the clash.
