JP’s joining AL govt betrayal with nation: Kazi Zafar

He urges JP followers to take to streets in favour of non-partisan cabinet

Jatiya Party Presidium member Kazi Zafar Ahmad on Saturday said joining the polls-time cabinet by their party chief is nothing but betrayal with the nation and asked the party leaders and activists to take part in the movement for establishing a non-party administration.

“Taking a clear stance against people, HM Ershad put some opportunist, unpredictable leaders greedy for being ministers into the Awami League’s so-called all-party government keeping most Jatiya party leaders in the dark,” he said in a statement.

He further said, “I have nowhere to vent my sorrow. Ershad has presented the party before the nation as a traitor and mass-hatred political party.”

Zafar, also a former Prime Minister now undergoing treatment in a city hospital, said joining the all-party government by some JP leaders not only stunned him but also the entire nation.

Defending his position against the party chief’s decision, the veteran politician said history will not forgive him (Zafar) if he keeps mum even after the shameful and anti-people activities of the party chief.

He also urged the party leaders and activists to raise their voice and take a counter-position against the party leaders loyal to the government.

The JP presidium member also said he together with the party’s majority presidium members, vice chairmen and MPs will announce the next course of action from a press conference when he comes round.

Zafar said he sincerely believes that a fair lection is not possible unless it is overseen by a non-party administration. “So, I call upon the current regime to hold the election under a non-partisan and neutral administration. I think Sheikh Hasina’s resignation is the only solution to save the country from the current crisis and bloody violence,” he added.

The JP leader said the Prime Minister’s resignation will also pave the path for a national dialogue and solution to the crisis.

Kazi Zafar also mentioned with dates the various remarks Ershad made on different occasions against Awami League.

Describing the demand for holding the election under a non-party government as mass people’s one, he urged the government to accept it to save the country from a possible civil war. “I want to say people will resist at any cost the conspiracy of the current anti-people fascist regime to hold a unilateral election keeping BNP and other opposition parties out of the race,” he warned.

Zafar also asked the JP leaders and activists to take to the streets spontaneously and employ their all efforts to force the government to concede to the caretaker government demand.
