The main coordinator of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and his four associates were arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Sadar upazila rail station of Sirajganj early today.

A huge amount of bomb, sophisticated bomb making materials, Jihadi books and other equipment were recovered from their possession, Major Maksud, deputy director of Rab media wing, told The Daily Star Online.

Of them, Abdun Noor is the main coordinator of the banned militant outfit who maintained close connection with his followers now in jail and in hiding, the Rab official claimed.

Acting on a tip-off a Rab team conducted a drive at the Syed Mansur Ali Railway Station around 2:30am Friday and detained them.

Carrying the explosives, they were going to Joydebpur of Gazipur from Chapainawabganj by a train, said Mufti Mahmud Khan, director at Legal and Media Wing of Rab.

The militants had planned to explode the explosives at different areas to show their existence and strengthen their networks, he said during a press conference at the Rab’s Uttara headquarters in Dhaka this afternoon.
