Chhatra League is trying to establish dominance inside the canteen, Chhatra Dal claims

Leaders of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal unit have accused Chhatra League members of intentionally occupying seats at Madhur Canteen.

Deprived of seats, the leaders and activists of the student wing of BNP staged protest regarding the matter by sitting on the canteen’s floor on Thursday.

Chhatra Dal members claimed that hundreds of leaders and activists of Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League, led by its acting General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee went inside the canteen around 11am and occupied all the chairs.

Leaders and activists of BNP’s student wing, who usually visit the canteen to hold political discussions, accused Chhatra League of intentionally occupying the tables.

They said when their newly elected President Fazlur Rahman Khokon went to the canteen and found the chairs occupied, he along with General Secretary Iqbal Hossain Shamol and some activists, sat on the floor of to protest against Chhatra League’s act.

“We could not find any chair that was not occupied,” Khokon told Dhaka Tribune. “They [Chhatra League] did this intentionally.”

He said: “Those who talk about peaceful co-existence in the campus are the very ones trying to interrupt our peaceful presence here.”

Salman Siddique, president of a faction of Socialist Students’ Front DU unit, said: “Even we did not get any place to sit inside Madhur Canteen.

“For years, Chhatra League has been occupying the residential dormitories; now they want to establish their dominance inside the canteen also.”

Chhatra League acting President Al-Nahean Khan Joy was unavailable for comments, despite repeated attempts to contact him.
