Jatiya Party joined polls to protect constitution: Raushan

Justifying her party’s decision of joining the 10th parliamentary elections, opposition leader Raushan Ershad here on Saturday said Jatiya Party took part in the polls to help protect the constitution and continue the democratic process.

 

“We’ve played the due role by participating in the polls. People also spontaneously responded to our call for joining the elections,” she said.

 

Raushan made the remarks at a mass-reception programme accorded to her by Jatiya Party on the premises of Mymensingh Model Town.

 

The opposition leader lamented that Mymensingh has long been remain impoverished as successive governments ignored its development.

 

Mentioning that the Prime Minister is sincere about the development of the district, Raushan said she will take steps to carry out massive development work in the district.

 

“I want Mymensingh to be elevated to a division. I’ll take effective measures to this end after discussion with the Prime Minister,” she told the programme.

 

The opposition leader expressed her gratitude to the country’s people for casting their ballots in favour of Jatiya Party during the January 5 election.

 

Party secretary general Ruhul Amin Hawlader MP, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, state minister for LGRD Moshiur Rahman Ranga and opposition chief whip Tajul Islam were, among others, present.
