Jatiya Party is preparing for agitation, says Raushon

She, however, has asked the people to wait for a few days to learn about the nature of the movement.

Asked if the Opposition was happy about the government steps regarding the Narayanganj multiple murders, she said: “How can we be satisfied? The Jatiya Party wants the guarantee of natural death for the people.”

Raushon said while it was the government’s duty to maintain law and order, it needed to be assisted as well.

She declined comment when asked if the government has failed in this regard.

“This is a sub-judice matter. The case is being investigated. We want to see a neutral probe,” the Opposition Leader said.

The senior Jatiya Party leader has not visited Narayanganj after the abduction and killing of seven men last month. The opposition party has held only a human chain protest over the matter either.

“We formed a human chain but I could not visit Narayanganj as I was sick,” she said.

“We’ll discuss the law and order in Parliament once it goes into session, apart from organising street agitations,” Raushon said.

Asked about the programmes, she said, “Just wait and see. The party will take a decision after discussions.”

She blamed the lack of employment for a rise in crimes.

“The youths are perpetrating crimes as they don’t have jobs. This criminal tendency can be curbed by generating employment opportunities,” she observed.

Ershad’s fears

Jatiya Party chief HM Ershad, at a separate views exchange meeting, feared the deteriorating law and order will pale the government’s successes.

In a statement on Wednesday, the prime minister’s special aide said, “Incidents of killings and abductions have struck fear into the people’s hearts.

“The government must take effective measures to improve the situation. Otherwise, it risks blemishing its successes.”

He had earlier criticised the government over the Narayanganj multiple murders.

At Wednesday’s meeting, Ershad also discussed the party’s nomination for the Narayanganj-5 by-polls, party leaders said.

The seat fell vacant after the death of the party’s Standing Committee member Nasim Osman.

It is scheduled to go to polls on June 26.
