Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Shiro Sadoshima has condemned the recent spate of political violence in Bangladesh over the election-time government.
“Japan, as a long term friend and important stakeholder of Bangladesh, strongly condemns any kind of violence and destructive activities that seriously affect people’s lives and development of Bangladesh,” he said in a statement today.
The statement came a day after UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said she is deeply worried by the rising levels of political violence in Bangladesh as the major parties fail to resolve their differences over the conduct of elections.
Sadoshima also called upon the leaders of all political parties to take all possible measures to end the ongoing violence.
“We urge them to engage in constructive dialogue to find a mutually acceptable solution for holding the coming general election in a free, fair, credible, inclusive and peaceful manner for the interest of Bangladesh’s future,” he said in the statement.
