Jamaat lawyer Cadman calls for Sayedee verdict review in ‘impartial’ court

Speaking at a media call in London after Monday midnight BdST, he also urged the Sheikh Hasina administration to not execute Supreme Court’s life-in-jail verdict for the war criminal who is number two in the Jamaat pecking order.

Barrister Cadman cited “concerns about due process and protection of fundamental fair trial rights” in launching the appeal against last week’s verdict.

The foreign counsel for the party that itself is facing investigations for purported war crimes in 1971, called on the UNHCR to put pressure on Dhaka to ensure that Sayedee’s case “is properly reviewed”.

The Appellate Division on Sept 17 reduced war crimes convict Delwar Hossain Sayedee’s death sentence to ‘imprisonment until death’.

Known as ‘Deilya Razakar’ in 1971, the Jamaat leader was given the maximum penalty for crimes against humanity by the war crimes tribunal on Feb 28 last year.
