The IT Incubation Centre, created through a partnership between the government and the private sector, is a welcome initiative that will boost the economy and take Bangladesh forward into the 21st century.

The country has a large population of young people with an entrepreneurial spirit. To successfully tap into the demographic dividend, everything should be done to support the youth execute their visions and introduce innovations into our information technology sector.

This centre, inaugurated by the Prime Minister’s ICT Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy, aims to do just that.

Over the next decade, over 100,000 jobs may be created and foreign earnings may be increased through this and similar initiatives.

Along with encouraging start-ups, the country’s plans to construct ICT parks and new economic zones, like the Hi-Tech Park in Gazipur, will spur innovation and growth, taking the economy forward.

Investing in the development of IT skills, and aiding the formation and growth of tech start-up companies is absolutely essential if we are to realise our dream of a Digital Bangladesh and become a globally recognised software hub and manufacturing base.

We have already seen a number of Bangladeshi brands invest strongly in manufacturing. Now, Bangladesh can start thinking seriously about digital exports, and of becoming an attractive destination for ICT investment.

Digital is the way forward. Let’s encourage its growth as much as possible.
