Deputy Commissioner Hasanuzzaman Kallol said District Magistrate Golamur Rahman will head a five-strong probe panel formed on Wednesday.

The other members of the committee are the additional superintendent of Comilla Police, UNOs of Chandina and Debidwar, and the additional police superintendent in charge of Chandina.

A Rangamati-bound bus from Dhaka caught fire when miscreants hurled something on it at Chandina early on Wednesday.

Five were burned and three injured in the fire.

Chandina Police Station OC Rasul Ahmed Nizami suspects a petrol bomb was hurled on the bus.

A blockade by the BNP and its allies from January to April saw a number of vehicles, mainly buses and trucks, torched.

Petrol bombs were used to set fire to the vehicles.

The violence left at least 130 people killed and many hundreds more injured.

A firebombing of a bus at Chauddagram in Comilla at the time left eight killed and 25 injured.

Comilla Deputy Commissioner Kallol said those behind the violence during the BNP blockade might be linked to the arson at Chandina.

He said RAB, BGB and police would conduct a combing operation to catch those involved in the arson.
