As their party suffered a split, information minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Wednesday hoped that the Election Commission will take the ‘right’ decision about the actual leadership of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal.
‘I’ve the full faith in the EC, and I hope it’ll do justice,’ said Inu while talking to reporters at EC secretariat, United News of Bangladesh reports.
Earlier, a seven-member delegation of a JSD faction, led by Inu, went to the Election Commission to join hearing around 11:00am and came out around 12:40pm.
The hearing was held as the JSD got split in its last national council on March 12 when a faction stood against Inu’s bid to make Shirin Akhter as its general secretary.
The rebel faction named Sharif Nurul Ambia and Nazmul Haque Prodhan, MP as its president and general secretary respectively. It also named Moinuddin Khan Badal as its executive president.
Both the groups now claim themselves as the ‘main’ party and have fielded chairman contenders for the UP polls seeking JSD’s ‘torch’ as its symbol.
‘We’ve submitted our papers and documents of our council to the EC on Tuesday and we’ve replied to EC’s every question during the hearing,’ Inu told the journalists.
Besides, the commission recorded the statement of another JSD faction led by Moinuddin Khan Badal from 3:00pm to 4:10pm.
Earlier, the EC had sent letters to leaders of the two factions of the left-wing party asking them to be present at the EC’s hearing to determine its actual leadership.
Now the commission will take the final decision over the main leadership of JSD and who will have authority to certify its chairman candidates in the ongoing union parishad elections.
