Ansarullah Bangla Team-13 on Tuesday issued death threats to 25 noted personalities, including information minister Hasanul Haq Inu and Dhaka University (DU) vice-chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique.
DU acting proctor M Amzad Ali told Prothom Alo that a letter containing the life threats was addressed to the DU vice-chancellor.
He said the letter written on the letterhead of Ansarullah Bangla Team-13 reached the office of DU VC around 12:30 pm on Wednesday.
A general diary has been filed with Shahbagh police station in this regard, he added.
This is the third time the DU VC has been issued with death threats, said the DU proctor.
Arefin Siddique said frequent issuance of such death threats is worrisome. “The detective branch should take steps to look into the matter.”
Those received the death threat include eminent historian professor Syed Anwar Hussain, professor Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, cultural personalities Nasiruddin Yusuf Bachchu, Syed Hasan Imam and Ramendra Majumder, Ekattarer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee president Shahriar Kabir, Liberation War Museum trustee Mofidul Haque, Independent University teacher Mohammad A Arafat, Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamal Dutta, journalists Munni Shaha, Nabanita Chowdhury, Abed Khan, Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Shahin Reza Noor and Anjan Roy, Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar, Bangladesh Chhatra League general secretary Siddique Nazmul Alam and former Chhatra Moitree former president Bappaditya Basu.
