Rannin-Soe

India had handed over Myanmar separatist group Arakan Army leader Rannin Soe reflecting a warm relation between the two neighbouring countries, said Border Guard Bangladesh director general Major General Aziz Ahmed.
The BGB chief divulged the information at a news conference at the BGB headquarters on Sunday while narrating the force’s success in past three years.
Meanwhile, on October 14, police and joint forces claimed that Arakan Army’s political adviser Rannin Soe was arrested in a raid at an under-construction mosque at Islampur Adarshapara village in Rajasthali of Rangamati.
Rannin is now custody and under trial in two cases were filed with Rajasthali police station following an attack on a patrol and an outpost of Border Guard Bangladesh at Thanchi of Bandarban on August 26.
A group of Myanmar ‘separatists’ had ambushed the border guard patrol team at Batangpara and nearby Madak Border Outpost a day after border guards on August 25 seized 10 foreign horses when they were being transported on boat.
Following the August firing, the joint forces arrested Ong Owong Rakhain, 20, from a house which is reportedly owned by Rannin at Taitong Para of Rajasthali.
Uniforms of Arakan Army, laptops, digital cameras, motorcycles and two horses were also found.
Rannin was among five siblings from a family at Mrauk-On in ‘Rakhine State’ in Myanmar. He studied in Yangon University and moved to the Netherlands for further studies. His two sisters died in the struggle in ‘Rakhine State’ while one of his two brothers stayed in Myanmar and another brother lived abroad.
