The Home Ministry has broken Rules of Procedure of Parliament, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said on Monday.

The speaker’s ruling in Parliament after Awami League lawmaker Abul Kalam Azad’s remarks made on February 16 when he critisized Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal’s failure to reply to a question scheduled to be asked in the House a number of times.

Azad also sought a ruling from the speaker regarding the matter.

Speaker Shirin said the MP had submitted the question on November 19 last year. Later, the question was shifted to the next business day, but before the question could be asked, the session ended.

In the ninth session on February 2, the lawmaker asked the question again, but it was shifted again to February 16.

“The question needed to be answered that day or shifted for the next day, but neither happened which is a breach of the Rules of Procedure,” Shirin said.

“If the ministers are not ready to answer a question, they can always follow Section 52 and answer the question the next day.

The Speaker directed all ministries to be more sincere in answering the questions according to Section 52 of the Rules of Procedure.
