Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested nine alleged members of a land forgery syndicate from different places of the city on Saturday.

 

The arrested people are ringleader Mohsin Reza, 48, a UP chairman  of Barisal, Jasim Uddin, 40, Kalim Mridha, 48, Shaon Hawlader, 20, Azizul Haque, 30, Sonoj Saha alias Ujjal, 44, Liton Munshi, 30, Md Swapan, 30, and Manik Khandker, 40.

 

Rab sources said the detained syndicate members had been involved in cheating people, especially current and retired government officers, in the name of buying and selling land since 2007.

 

Briefing reporters at the Rab headquarters on Sunday afternoon, Rab Legal and Media wing director Wing Commander Habibur Rahman said a team of Rab-1 conducted a drive in Kachikhet Bazar area on Saturday evening and arrested Jasim, Kalim, Shaon and Azizul.

 

Later, the elite force members arrested Sonoj and Liton from Pallabi area.

 

Following their statements, the Rab members nabbed Mohsin Reza, Swapan and Manik from Hotel Holiday Express at Ashkona under Airport Police Station, Habib said.

 

A pistol along with four bullets and 250 Yaba tablets were also recovered from their possession.

 

Setting up offices in posh areas of the capital and divisional cities, the syndicate members used to introduce them as established developers and then misappropriate money in various ways, including making false land documents, Wing Commander Habib said.
