Hold talks to reach consensus

Chinese envoy urges govt, opposition to fix political crisis

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jun

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jun Wednesday urged the leaders of the two major political parties to sit for a dialogue to reach a consensus over the next general elections.

“At present, the two parties should restrain themselves from any more aggressive actions and take positive measures to create favourable environment leading to direct dialogue”, the ambassador said at a press briefing at a city hotel organised on the occasion of Chinese naval hospital ship ‘Peace Ark’s visit in Bangladesh.

China, as a close friend of Bangladesh, sincerely hopes that the major political parties, especially ruling Awami League and BNP can resolve their disputes properly to maintain social stability, he added.

“As the Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh, I would like to support any efforts by the parties to resolve the dispute through dialogue. However, face to face dialogue should be encouraged to settle the disputes,” Jun said.

Replying a query over the ambassador’s rare remarks on the political affairs of Bangladesh, he said China wants political stability in the country.

“Many persons here asked me whether we are doing anything for the solution over the current political situation of Bangladesh. But I always believe that the parties themselves can solve their own problems”, he said.
