Hundreds of people thronged Motijheel to join a rally of Hefajat-e Islam to pressurise the government to fulfill its 13-point demand.

Thousands of activists of Hefajat-e Islam have converged in the capital’s commercial hub, Motijheel, to join a rally at Shapla Chattar Sunday afternoon.

The activists, who earlier took part in a Dhaka blockade programme blocking all the entry points, started to march towards the rally venue with processions soon after the authorities issued permission for holding the rally.

The rally began at 3:00pm.

Leaders of Hefajat were addressing the rally around 4:15pm when the report was filed.

The activists were seen sitting at the Shapla Chattar intersection, halting transport movement in the area.

The main podium has been set up there, like the organisation did when it held a grand rally a month ago, on April 6.

Though the authorities have issued permission for Hefajat to hold a rally at 3:00pm, it leaders already started to address the rally from where party Chief Shah Ahmad Shafi will declare the next course of action.

The group has been holding the ‘Dhaka blockade’ programme blocking all the entry points of the capital since Sunday morning to press home their 13-point demand including stern punishment to “atheist leaders” of the Shahbagh movement.
