HC rejects Khaleda’s plea for reinvestigation into Orphanage Trust graft case

The High Court on Thursday rejected a petition filed by Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia, seeking reinvestigation into a part of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case filed against her.

An HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim rejected the plea during a hearing on the petition.

On February 7, Khaleda Zia filed a petition before the court seeking reinvestigation into the case.

Advocate Abdur Rezzaque Khan stood for the petitioner while advocate Khurshid Alam Khan represented the ACC.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the HC ordered the transfer of the case of Zia Orphanage Trust graft to Dhaka Senior Special Judge’s Court (Metropolitan Session Judge’s Court) from Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-3.

An HC bench also asked the Dhaka Senior Special Judge’s Court to dispose of the case within 60 days.

The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, now living in the UK after securing bail, and four others for misappropriating over Tk 21. 0 million (2.10 cr) that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
