The High Court on Tuesday directed the law enforcers to arrest in 48 hours the culprits who are responsible for killing and injuring people at Fatikchhari in Chittagong during the countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal on April 11.

The court came up with the order on a suo moto (of its own) move following a report published in The Daily Star on April 12.

According to the report, three persons were killed and more than 100 people were injured as Hefajat-e Islam and Jamaat-e-Islami activists joined in by locals clashed with Awami League men in Fatikchhari during the hartal on April 11.

On Tuesday, the HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain asked the police authorities to submit a report after complying with the order to it in 72 hours.

It also issued a rule upon the government to explain in two weeks why it should not be directed to take appropriate legal action against the culprits.
