Hasina’s anti-India statement mysterious: BNP

Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Wednesday said the abrupt anti-Indian statements made by prime minister Sheikh Hasina are mysterious.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina created speculation making anti-Indian statements suddenly, said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

‘She (Sheikh Hasina) said Indian RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) and the United States helped BNP to come to power in 2001. Such statements of Sheikh Hasina are mysterious and it is a part of a fixed match,’ he said.

The prime minister’s sudden anti-RAW stance is a part of a joke and people have no doubt over it, the BNP senior leader added.

Indicating RAW, Rizvi said the central intelligence agency of a neighbouring country, which is also the source of the Awami League government’s power, is working to keep the government in power.

He said inking any military deal with India will be suicidal and against the independence.

‘There will be no independence and sovereignty in the country if Bangladesh’s security is dependent on India and our defence policy is taken as per India’s wish,’ he said.

People in Bangladesh will never accept such anti-state defence deals, rather, they will come forward to resist such deals, Rizvi said.

When asked about the prime minister’s speech in which she called upon the countrymen to keep confidence in the Awami League and reelect the party in the next elections to serve the people again at a rally in Lakshmipur on Tuesday, Rizvi said such acts go against the rule of electoral conduct according to RPO

‘She (the prime minister) made the speeches to influence the voters of Comilla City Corporation,’ he said.

The election of Comilla City Corporation is scheduled to be held on March 30.
