Hasina will be made to answer, says Khaleda

The BNP chief sounded the warning while addressing the relatives of two missing party leaders of Comilla at her Gulshan office on Tuesday night.

“Those who have carried out forced disappearances and killings in the country will be brought to justice someday. No matter how powerful, they will have to answer.

“Even Hasina will not be spared. She will have to cry one day,” Khaleda said.

Families of former BNP MP of Comilla’s Laksam constituency Saiful Islam Hiru and Laksam municipal BNP presidentHumayun Kabir saw Khaleda.

Thefamilies claim RAB whisked the two leaders away on Nov 17 last year.

They have been unaccounted-for since and the relatives have sued RAB.

The BNP alleges more than 300 leaders and activists of the party have either been murdered orforced to disappear in the past one year.

It further claims the Hasina government ‘used’ RAB to perpetrate these crimes and has called for disbanding the elite police unit.

Khaleda referred to the alleged ties of RAB officers to the seven murders in Narayanganj and said, “The three RAB officers involved with the crimes should have been court-martialled.

“But the government did not do that. They were not even discharged, only forcibly retired. That’s because one of those men, Tarek Sayeed, is the relative of a minister,” she said.

Former RAB-11 commander Tarek Sayeed Mohammad, charged in the seven murders, has also been accused in Hiru and Humayun’s abduction cases.

Khaleda explained why she wanted RAB, which was formed by her government, to be disbanded.

“We formed RAB to tackle crime and terrorism. Now they are being used as a political tool.”

“The law says to catch criminals and turn them over for justice. But RAB is catching opposition activists and murdering them. This institution is a terror for the public,” she said.

Hiru’s and Humayun’s family broke down in tears while speaking to Khaleda.

“How many more people will be killed? How many families will we console?” Khaleda said.

“I am always by your side. One day justice will be done. Have patience and pray to Allah,” she told the families.

The BNP chief said the present government was ‘illegal’ and her party would soon launch a movement to unseat the government and bring peace to the country.

Senior BNP leaders including acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir were present with the chairperson.
