Firing a broadside at the BNP chief for her ‘destructive’ politics, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday alleged that whenever BNP comes to power it turns the country into a doomsday through killing people and plundering public funds.

“Whenever BNP comes to power it brings doomsday for the country,” she said while addressing at a huge rally at Borolekha Degree College ground, organised by the local unit of Awami League.

Prime Minister Hasina further alleged that the founder of BNP had captured state power through conspiracy, coup and killing, trampling the constitution.

“That’s why they (BNP) don’t understand the language of democracy. Very often they kill people, torture people and even burn them alive as they know these activities very well,” she said.

The Prime Minister also said that BNP comes to power to loot the country’s wealth and make turn rich overnight, and the country’s people died gradually during their previous rule.

Referring to the opposition-sponsored series of countrywide hartals in the last couple of weeks, Sheikh Hasina said she had requested the opposition leader not to enforce hartal during the Junior School Certificate (JSC) examinations that began on November 4 so that the examinees could take part in the examinations smoothly.  “But she didn’t listen to me and enforced the hartal from that very day.”

Hasina said the opposition leader is also a mother. “Doesn’t it cross her mind that these little boys and girls should not be disturbed during their examinations,” she said.

“What has the opposition leader gained by enforcing the hartals?” the Prime Minster questioned adding that she just killed some people and burned one alive.

Talking about the tragic death of young Monir, Hasina said pro-hartal BNP-Jamaat activists were laughing when Monir was crying for help to save his life. “How could one Muslim kill another Muslim by setting on fire?” she questioned further.

Seeking votes for the ruling party in the next parliamentary elections, Hasina said if the Awami League returns to power it would engage its all efforts towards development of the country as in its previous terms.

Chaired by Borolekha upazila AL president Mohammad Shahabuddin, MP, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Amir Hossain Amu, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, minister without portfolio Suranjit Sengupta, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Chief Whip Abdus Shahid.

Prior to addressing the rally, the Prime Minister inaugurated a technical training centre for the physically-challenged orphan children, Moulvibazar district Muktijoddha complex, Itauri Mohila Dakhil Madrasah, Chandragram AU Dakhil Madrasah and the newly-built academic building of Juri Model High School from the Borolekha Degree College ground.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stones of Borolekha thana building, Kathaltali-Madhabkunda road rehabilitation project, hydraulic structure construction of Dhalchhara sub-project, academic building of Patharia Chotolekha Model High School, 500-seat auditorium-cum multipurpose hall at Borolekha upazila, Juri upazila health complex and 33/11 10 MVA Moulvibazar sub station-2.
