Hasina shrugs off BNP’s movement threat

She urges all to resist Khaleda if she tries to kill people again

Brushing aside the BNP chairperson’s threat to wage a fierce movement after Eid-ul-Azha, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said Khaleda Zia is killing people in the name of movement and urged people to resist together if she starts doing that again.

“We’re still hearing about her (Khaleda’s) threat to launch a movement. Her movement is nothing but killing people, and I urge the people of the country to come forward and resist together if she again starts killing in the name of movement,” she said.

The Prime Minister was addressing a press conference at her official residence Ganobhaban on the outcome of her recent US tour to attend the UNGA.

Hasina said people did not accept the movement of killing by BNP-Jamaat to foil the January-5 election though they had thought that they would be able to push the country in to a civil war with that.

“So, the people of the country need to remain united and aware.”

Mentioning that the government would do whatever necessary to tackle the possible movement, Hasina said, “The government has power to be tougher to tackle any tough movement, but I always believe in people’s power.”

“We’ll (deal with) when she (Khaleda) will step into movement…I don’t know at whose advice she (Khaleda) dances in the air,” Hasina told journalists.

Asked about the recent trend of distortion of history by some noted people through publishing books, the Prime Minister said the publishers also have some responsibility in this regard and they need to think how they could publish false information.

About the frequent comments of BNP chief’s son Tarique Rahman from abroad about the country’s history, Hasina did not go for making further comment on the issue saying that people know everything. “History is history and no one will be able to hide it.”

Last month, while addressing a rally at Niaz Mohammad High School ground in Brahmanbaria, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia threatened to launch a tougher movement if the government does not scrap the judge impeachment bill.

The former Prime Minister also warned that she would announce a fresh programme after the Eid-ul-Azha and called upon people from all walks of life to ensure their participation to make the anti-government movement a success.
